At our meeting on 11 January we had over 20 members and lively discussion ranged from marketing our Town to budgeting for 2012, two guest speakers told us about Tourism plans for Cricklade and the future of the Campus a Wiltshire council initiative to get rid of some of its building stock and improve local facilitates.  Members were also informed about a possible grant of up to £5000 from the Area Board which Wootton Bassett Chamber and ourselves will administer to encourage economic growth within the local Area.  We welcomed three new members Clair Bowen, Heather Muir and Adrian and Mym Holcombe. Their details will be published on the website soon.

The awaited report to David Cameron’s Government about the future of our High Streets was Published in December by retail Guru Mary Portas. The document (view report) explores the failings and future of our High Streets and makes recommendations to Government on how to save our High Streets.

There are some interesting thoughts and whilst much of the report relies on government at all levels taking action there are a number of recommendations for retailers. Take a look surprise yourself find a couple of items that you could put in place to help you.

December 2010

Cricklade Town Council gave the go ahead to plans for a new 45 space car park in the Town centre at their meeting on 13th December. Following public consultation sent to 1698 households in Cricklade there was an excellent response rate of 26% in which 341 voted yes and 99 no to the use of a public works loan to develop the car park. This is was the final hurdle in the battle to provide improved car parking in the Town which has lasted for many years and is great news for the future health of our Town centre.

Have a look at the proposed HGV loading bay outside Tesco it will help congestion but reduce the parking spaces between Tesco and Gas Lane to one space. Informal consultation was held earlier this year with residents and businesses. Cricklade Town Council have re-confirmed their wish to see this implemented as part of the traffic management measures currently under consideration.

If the loading bay is to be implemented then Cricklade Town Council has been asked to recommend times based on local circumstances.  Before they do so they would appreciate the views of CBA and their members, who are most affected, on what would be the preferred time limits to be put in place.
